Can't select images after upgrae to v10.0

I double-click to open an image in the Library view. After that, I cannot switch to another image by selecting a new image in the thumbnail list at the bottom of the screen. I have to always get back out to the Library thumbnail view and double-click another image. How could this very basic UI be so broken???

Consider resetting the preference file. The preference file can get corrupted, leading to buggy behavior.
