Can't take files from Lightroom to Photoshop Elements.. please help

Please help.. I'm using Lightroom 6, and want to take my photo directly into Photoshop Elements  14. When I go to "Photo", "Edit in" and choose the photoshop elements option, I get a message telling me the document could not be opened. Adobe Photoshop Elements 14 cannot open files in the "Adobe Photoshop document" format. This is the case whatever I choose, whether it's a jpeg or tiff. It's frustrating!! Please help
