Question

Cannot add folders from Synology NAS to Lightroom

I moved my RAW files to Synology NAS. I have MacOSX.

When I want to add some folder to Lightroom Classic, I find main folder (Photos) but cannot unfold all folders in this main folder so cannot add it to LR.

Where is problem?

Can I use NAS as external drive?

Thank you, Roman

NAS drives can definitely be used as storage for raw files. There is no restriction there. You should be able to add any folder from a NAS into your lightroom catalog as long as your account has read permissions to the folder you are trying to add. Simply drag the folder from the finder onto Lightroom and it should throw up the import dialog. Select add there and it should add it. If you moved folders you already had in Lightroom to the NAS drives follow the instructions here to reconnect the images already in your catalog in their new location: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/move-photos-another-hard-drive-leaving-catalog/

Thank you. But problem is that I start import dialog and I cannot add it.

I copied my photos from backup on external disc to new NAS. I see all my folders and files on NAS in Finder.

Now I start import dialog - I select source (some folder on my NAS) - in import dialog is "No photos found".

Do you know what is wrong and what can I do?

Thank you, Roman

It means that all those images are already in your catalog referenced at

their original positions. You need to reconnect the images in your catalog

in their new position. Not import them. Look at the article I linked above.

It explains the process of moving images to a new location and telling

Lightroom about that.

As a Windows guy, I know I am not going to be much help here. However, I do know that debugging something like this over an internet forum tends to be slow and painful.

Which MacOS version?

Which exact version of Lightroom?

Can you show us some screen shots of where things are going wrong?

So maybe problem solved! I tried to import pictures from SD card to LR and then move to NAS. It works and not disconnect! And one problem solved yet - sync began between OneDrive via Cloud Sync - it was my second problem. So do you understand why it doesn't work when I copy from external disc to NAS and then I want to add from NAS to LR? Must to first copy files to LR and then move to NAS?

In broad sweeping terms, LR is often sensitive to file permissions that are not easily explained, more so on Macs.

It is not help that Mac OS upgrades tend to screw with file permissions.

One of the things that often helps, due to overkill, is giving full rights to the "everyone" group on your image folders.

The first thing I would check would be to see what the difference is in the access rights for the NAS folders you created versus the folders that LR created.

Just grasping at straws here....
