Question

Cannot import catalog to Lightroom

Hi, I have been trying to migrate my lightroom photos and edits to a new pc (in Lightroom classic). I have managed to transfer the photos, but everytime I try and import a catalog from preferences or edits (and the correct location on my hard drive) it says "No photos found", or you need to "upgrade catalog". Any ideas please?

To 'transfer' your "Lightroom photos and edits to a new pc" you need only to COPY the catalog and photos to the new PC.

No Importing! NO IMPORTING!

Relinking the Catalog to the photos in the new PC may require some steps. It is very helpful if all the photo files are in exactly the same folder structure (parent and sub-folders)  as they were in the old system.

Read the information here- Move Lightroom to a new computer? | The Lightroom Queen

"No photos found" might suggest that re-linking of the photos in their 'new' location is required. Or you are wrongly trying to Import or Synchronize folders.

"upgrade catalog" might suggest you have upgraded to Lr-Classic app v14 in the new PC and are opening a catalog from a previous version of LrC.  OR you have copied over an 'old' catalog (or the wrong catalog) that had never been upgraded before.

And if you have Develop presets in the old PC that are important to you, locate them in the old system and copy them to the new.  FILE LOCATIONS

Thanks for your reply and the link.

However, I am still unable to set LR up as before on a new device and I have been trying on and off for two days. The photos are just in one single folder and can be loaded. So hte photos are clerly there and recognisable. But whenever I add or open a catalog, with the correct location (in my Lightroom folder or anywhere else on the hard drive) "it just says no photos found".

Inserting some screen-clips (with the 'Insert photos' icon above your post) may be helpful to assist you. Include FIle Explorer view of your photo folders and view of folder panel in Lr-CLassic.

"unable to set LR up"-  Exactly what problems? Is that "LR" or "LrC"?

"photos are just in one single folder and can be loaded." - Loaded how? in FIle Explorer? In the Lr-Classic folder panel? Imported?

"photos are clearly there and recognisable." - Where? In File Explorer or Lr-Classic?

"whenever I add or open a catalog, with the correct location" - Do you have more than one catalog? Copied from the old system?

"it just says no photos found".- A full-screen screen-clip? What prompts this message?

Sorry for all the questions, but understanding the problem can be helpful.
