Question

Cannot move Lightroom Classic to another drive

HELP! I uninstalled Lightroom Classic from my C-drive because it is critically full. I tried to reinstall it on my external drive or my SSD drive, but I keep getting a "root path" error message. I have Illustrator on my external drive with no issues, so I don't understand why Lightroom won't add. (I have plenty of storage available on it) Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong and how to fix the issue are greatly appreciated!! THANK  YOU!

I'm pretty sure Lightroom Classic can be installed on an external or SSD drive. See https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/apps/manage-installed-apps/change-install-location-creative-cloud-apps.html

If your photos or catalog file is on the C: drive, I would move those to a different drive before you re-install the software on a different drive.

Please provide the complete unedited word-for-word error message.

The error code means that there's not enough free diskspace on the drive with the download path.

Please check your free space.

Check also your access rights to the external driv. Do <you have full access to the drive?

Check your environment variable tmp and temp. Which folders do the variables point to.

Press the Windows key + R then type in cmd and press return.

On the prompt type "set" and press return. You should see a output similar to the screensshot below.

Unlike other apps I don't believe that Lightroom-Classic app can be installed on another drive. (Others might prove me wrong)

You can however move the catalog, the catalog previews, and all photo files, to another drive.

Creative Cloud must be on C:drive, and the LrC install occupies about 4GB of space. It is the previews cache that can occupy far more space.

MOVING A CATALOG

And refer the the LrC User Guide:  https://helpx.adobe.com/support/lightroom-classic.html?mv=product&mv2=lr#

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.1.1, Photoshop 27.3.1, ACR 18.1.1, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.2 .
