Cannot move pictures in a folder

After importing pictures into Lightroom Classic I was unable to reorganize the sequence, ie drag and drop technique in library grid view. Did never happen before

Happened with pictures imported from 2 different canera chips and with  fotos imported from a mobile via Google fotos.

Thanks for reaching out. We're here to help.

 

What version of Lightroom Classic & the operating system are you working on? Could you please share a screenshot of the folder panel where you are trying to order images?

 

Custom order using drag & drop is not supported if you are in a parent folder, i.e., a folder with subfolders.

You can go to the subfolder to organize images. You can also freely re-organize pictures in a collection.

Sorry, I must be getting very old, like 77+.

I have made some 50-60 albums over the last 7 years.
Everytime accepting that one cannot move pictures in the library, since at
that stage the pictures are just a reflection of the folders on the PC: as
Scott Kelly explains and as you reminded me ...
And of course it works in a collection.
