Lightroom Classic crashed? Then the lock file did not get deleted and it is preventing you from opening Lightroom Classic. You need to, carefully, delete the lock file.

see: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/lightroom-error-catalog-cannot-be-opened-lrcat-lock.html

There's no locked catalog file. I even removed (backed-up) the Lightroom folder in /picture so it's basically a clean start.

Do you have your  Creative Cloud Manager open and accessible? What  happens if you try to  open  Lr from  there? Big Sure (sur) isn't so stable right  now... it's best to  wait until there are a few iterations of the OS before updating – like a dot 3 or 4. Updating straight  away to the  next  big  release is a Big Sure  (sur) way  to have incompatibility problems across the board. Not just with  Adobe apps either. Is  your Creative Cloud Manager on Auto Update?

Hi,

Yes, Creative Cloud Manager is up to date and can be open. Opening LRC from here has the same result. Maybe I should have waited with upgrading to Big Sure but frankly I don't think it's an excuse. Other CC apps (like AI) can be opened and work great on Big Sure.
