Canon 1Dx tethering over ethernet

According to...

A list of cameras that can be tethered to Lightroom Classic CC and Lightroom 6

...then Lightroom supports tethering with the Canon 1DX.

However there are no instructions or details on how to do this. In particular I obviously expect to tether using a wired Ethernet connection rather than USB. But there appears to be no options to actually create that connection. But to claim it supports tethering and not be clear about this being limited to USB and that it does not support the serious cabling option is frankly misleading.

What is the situation?

Does it support tethering using a network connection? If not the documentation needs to be updated to make that clear.

    Update...

    The instructions are none existent / poor.

    However I have got it working.

    Download the EOS Utility from Canon website.

    Run the utility and setup a connection to the camera. (Probably wise to test taking and downloading a few shots to prove it's working.)

    Open Lightroom classic and pick the Tethered Capture (Canon) option).

    Check in the top left the camera connection set up above is selected.

    Should now work as expected. (You may want to review the settings to ensure the behaviour as what you want.)

    NB - I don't see a reason why this wouldn't work with a wireless connect, except that I don't have the gadget for my 1DX.

    Documentation update suggestion:

    Add something to the tethering support page to say you must download Canon EOS utility and setup a connection to the camera.

    Additional update...

    By default the Canon EOS utility is configured to start when a camera connects. However the camera can only connect to a single application. So if the camera powers off and then you power it back on again it launches the EOS Utility and this prevents Lightroom from reconnecting to the camera.

    To prevent this you need to take one extra step...

    • Connect the EOS Utility to the camera as above.
    • Right click the EOS Utility icon in the task bar (right hand side where all the service icons are).
    • Pick the option "Do not launch EOS Utility automatically when the camera is connected."

    This stops the EOS utility launching and allows Lightroom to reconnect with the camera.

    Warnings

    If it doesn't reconnect before you take a picture that picture will not get transferred.

    If you use the import option to download all the pictures on the memory card then it doesn't recognise already transferred pictures resulting in duplicates.

    If the camera connect LED flashes red then unplugging / plugging the cable doesn't seem to fix the issue. However turning the camera off / on normally does.

    That's everything I've learnt so far. I'll update if there is anything else.

    By definition tethering involves a cable between camera and computer.

    You wanot remote connectivity, a different solution.
