Question

Cant get Lightroom Classic to tether to and detect Sony a7v even though Imaging Edge Desktop can

I am trying to tether my Sony A7V to Lightroom Classic on my MacBook Pro.  When I try Lightroom just gets stuck trying to detect my camera.  I was able to connect my camera using Imaging Edge Desktop so I know it's not an issue between my camera and computer or my USB-C cable.  Both my camera and Lightroom are completely up to date.  I’ve tried following every tutorial I can find but I haven't found any specific to using the A7V.  My menu titles are all slightly different and in different spots than older versions of the camera so I’m not 100% sure I have everything set up right on my camera.  Since it is working with Imaging Edge though, I assume I am.  I’ve also tried deleting Lightroom Classic preferences on my Mac which I saw in a few posts with similar situations but the files I was supposed to delete did not exist.  Could it be something to do with my camera being a relatively new release?  I have only started being able to open RAW files in adobe in the last couple months because it hadn't caught up with my camera yet so I don't know if there's an update or something I have to wait for to make my camera compatible with Lightroom?

I don’t know about a MacBook Pro but I had the same problem with my Alpha 7V.
The reason was a driver conflict with the driver that came with Sony’s Imaging Edge software. The solution (in Windows) was to change the driver for "Sony Remote Control Camera" to MTP USB Device in Device Manager. Maybe something similar can be done in your MacBook Pro. Just a thought.

Hey, @rachelm42055345. Welcome to the Lightroom Classic Community. I'll help you figure this out.

As per our list of cameras supported, the Sony Alpha 7V is supported: https://adobe.ly/43XQOCK

Here are a few things you can try:

  • Reset Lightroom Classic following the second (manual) method from this article: https://adobe.ly/4fOPxm4

  • Update macOS & Lightroom Classic to the latest build v26.5.1 & v15.4.1, respectively.

  • Close any other applications that could attempt to access the Camera while Lightroom Classic is running.

  • Check the camera's permissions in the Privacy & Security section in macOS, revoke any previously granted permissions, and see if that helps.

  • Just to be sure, ensure Lightroom Classic has the required permissions on macOS: https://adobe.ly/4hmGnNB

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!
