Changing date on imported photo

I am building a digital archive with tags and keywords and many of my photos are from some period of time in the 80s-90s, many of which I do not know. Is there a way to set the date as 198x-xx-xx as I'd like to keep a form for how I date photos and Lightroom currently dates the photos automatically to time of import. Any feedback would be appreciated.

    If you mean including those 'x', then no. If you mean can you set it to an arbitrary date like 1988-01-01, then yes. Use menu 'Metadata - Edit Capture Time'.
