Question

Choppy LRC

I have a brand new Mac Studio.  It has 64GB RAM, and a 2TB hard drive....it's the Max version with Apple silicon.  It should be a rocket.

Yet LrC is very choppy in edit module. The sliders are not smooth and there is a lag on the changes to the images.   This is crazy.  This machine is brand new .

The same LrC version ran great on my 2019 iMac that I just got rid of.  What's up with this !!!???

Also, make sure that the GPU preference is set to 'Auto' giving you full acceleration (see attached screenshot). If not set to auto and/or the text isn't exactly as shown in attatched screenshot, then the GPU 'feature' test has failed. I've only seen that happening on a new M1/M2 based computer when migration assistant was used or the Users > XXX > Library > Application Support > Adobe folder or some/all of its contents were manually copied/pasted from old to new computer. If that's what has happened, then use Solution 3 in https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html

I forgot to mention that you also need to ensure that the macOS Montrey security settings are configured to allow Lr Classic full disk access https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/quick-tips-how-to-give-full-disk-access-to-lightroom-classic-on-macos/td-p/12913413

Also, make sure that Lr Classic isn't set to run in Rosetta emulation mode (right-click on application icon, then choose 'Get Info' from context menu)

I have a Mac Studio (M1 Ultra version) plus an M1 Pro MacBook Pro and M1 Mac mini. None of the computers has ever shown the issue you describe. Therefore, I supect the issue you're experiencing is specific to your setup rather the Lr Classic

Did you use Apple Migration Assistant or just copied your setup from the iMac to the Mac Studio? If yes to either, then try the following:

1. Reset the Lr Classic preference using Method 1 in this linked document https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/setting-preferences-lightroom.html

If above doesn't help, then try -

2. Uninstalling Lr Classic then reinstalling. Both uninstall and reinstall should be done using the Adobe Creative Cloud App

What are your settings in Preferences > Performance? What is your Cache allocation? Have you purged your Cache?

Brand new Mac Studio. No cache issues. This is a software conflict I think. What worked on my Intel iMac is not working well on my Apple chip machine.
