Question

Classic Lightroom 2023 sliders not returning to last used state.

I have been experiencing this problem pretty much since I've started using Lightroom (10+ years), but whenever I use an adjustment slider for a brush or gradient, it doesn't seem to retain the last setting. If it does, then it doesn't take on the new setting when I make a new adjustment, so I have to go back to the panel and adjust the settings. To avoid this I have been using "Reset Sliders Automatically" which works fine, but I would like to have the option of keeping the last adjustments and not having to readjust for each return to the tool. It's as though it takes a bit of coaxing to get it to take on the new setting, then once it has it, it doesn't let go between tool uses. Can be the same image or across multiple images. Anyways this persists after ditching preferences, restarts etc. Even different computers. Sorry I am slow to finally stating the issue. Got into the habit of never expecting this to work, but I've been paying for this software for years and this remains a mystery that I haven't seen addressed.

Still looking for a response to this question. I would like the sliders (Brush, gradient, etc. )to hold their last used setting, not some setting from 2, 3, 4 or 5 images ago. It's like the first use creates a default setting that is continually applied.

As I understand your problem correct then can be presets for brushes the solution.

    Thank you for responding,

Creating new presets isn't the answer I am looking for, I just want to push fewer buttons, not create a huge library of presets. Thanks!

"I have been using "Reset Sliders Automatically" which works fine, but I would like to have the option of keeping the last adjustments and not having to readjust for each return to the tool."

To me that sounds 'backwards'- Any time you use a Masking Tool and create a new mask for that tool, the check option, if checked, will do what it says- Resets all sliders to default "0".

If you want to keep the last adjustment- uncheck the [Reset Sliders Automatically] and leave it unchecked.

    Thanks for responding,

what I am trying to get across is my frustration with how the tool keeps its first adjustment , even after you make a further adjustment, it keeps going back to the first adjustment. For example if I set the brush with an exposure value of +.20, make my retouch, then use the brush again, and adjust it to another value, say -.40. When I go to use the brush a third time, it opens up with the +.20 value and not the -.40 value that I last used. I just want to use the last value for the next time I use the brush. That's my question.

Yes, I see what you mean, and while playing around with the Brush exposure slider (eg. +2stops) it always reset to '0' for me when re-opening a brush im masking, despite the fact I had unchecked [Reset Sliders automatically].

There was a time past when it was different if you set a slider Before or After painting with the Brush. The 'Default' brush setting was changed.

Sorry I do not have the answer!  More experimenting to be done.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post if it helps you get responses.
