Cleaning LR Catalogs and Other Files Nik Collection

I recently noticed that my HD was filling up. I performed an OS Hard Drive inspection to determine the source. The first thing I noticed was that I had LR catalogs (Ircat) files from 2017. Once I deleted several of those, I saw a lot of free space.

One file I am not sure of is nikcollection-full-1.2.11.dmg (612 MB). I still us the Nik Collection on LR Classic (8.3 Release). However the Nik file is dated April 2017. What is this?

Many thanks

Rafael

This is the installation file (for MacOS) of the latest free version of the Nik Collection from Google.

If you delete this file you have to download the file in case you have to reinstall the collection.

I would prefer to save this file on an external hard drive or burn it on a CD.

Do you have an external HD? Putting your photos on the external HD is probably the best way to clear up space on the internal HD. If you want to do that, we can provide instructions.

Also, you should delete the previews associated with those old catalogs that you deleted. The previews are stored in folders with names that end with Previews.Lrdata

Yes, I have plenty-o of external HDs. However, I do not keep any photos on my computer HD (SSD). I only keep programs and, as I discovered, LR catalog Ircat files (LR backups).

Do not keep backups on the internal HD if that's also where you keep the originals. Backups MUST go on a different disk than the originals.
