Collections missing - unable to locate catalog

I have lightroom classic purchased and installed about 6 mo. ago. This morning I logged in and all the collection I set up were gone. I never moved anything !   Now later today everything is gone including the catalog. Luckily I have back ups. I am leary of Light room because in talking to a photographer I know he had the samr problem and lost 30,000 images!  I am told to only use lightroom for editing.

Can anyone giv me their thoughts. Is this a common problem and where do I go from here?

How do I get Adobe involved?

You have most likely opened the wrong catalog accidentally (sounds like you may have accidentally opened  new empty catalog). Using your operating system's search feature, search all fokders on all disks for all files whose name ends with .LRCAT (might be lower case) and open each file found until you find the catalog you want.

The other photographr you talked to must not have made backups, and so losing everything is really his fault. If you have recent backups, you have lost nothing, plus your working catalog is out there on one of your disks.

Utter nonsense.
