Question

Could not read preview jpg files only Lightroom Clasic

Since the last update, I’ve been unable to import or add JPG files to Lightroom Classic (LRC). However, I have no issues importing RAW files from an SD card.

I’m using the latest version of LRC (14.2) on a 2024 MacBook Pro with an M4 chip. I’ve already tried the following troubleshooting steps:

•Ensured all permissions are set to read/write

•Restarted Lightroom

•Reinstalled Lightroom

Despite these efforts, the issue persists. The JPG files are not corrupted—I can open them without any problems. Any advice?

Just an idea: please check if the option "Treat JPEG files next... " in the preferences is marked.

Do you have try to reset the preferences of Lightroom Classic:  How to reset Lightroom Classic preferences (adobe.com)

It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/preference-file-and-other-file-locations.html

If this doesn't help, please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the LrC Help > System Info menu item. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

Attach one of the problem files here and we can see if the issue occurs with other LR installations or is specific to yours.

The sample photo imports just fine into my LR 14.2 / Mac OS 15.2, confirming there's no general incompatibility with LR and the issue is something specific to your installation. Further steps to narrow down the issue:

1. How are you importing the photo? From an SD card?  From the local disk? Via a USB cable?

2. Try putting the photo on the Desktop and importing from there with the Add option (i.e. so it doesn't get moved or copied).  Does that work?
