Crash When Assigning Music to Slideshow (any update?)

It seems that this is a old problem, I newly discovered today, trying to make my first slide show. I have a mixture of portrait and landscape pictures which seems to be part of the trigger for this crash for some reason.

Lot's of posts; I see there have been bug reports open for years. Any update/rumour of a fix?
