Go to edit> Preferences> Performance, uncheck 'Use GPU for image processing, and restart Lightroom.

How are you importing?

By this I mean in LrC import, Copy, Copy as DNG, or Add?

So this was the problem. It was set to upload from a USB drive that was plugged into the back of my computer that I was not seeing and set for a cloud destination that I was not logged into. User error. Not sure how that happened. I learned a lot. Thanks for your help, sending good karma your way.

If you have a phone or tablet connected via USB port try unplugging it, reboot your system, and try again.

I didn't. But I took everything out of the USB port (mem card) and rebooted. No difference.

I probably should have added running Win 10 on a Surface Pro.
