Create collection in LR not working. I click the button, nothing happens. Even with Smart Collection too.. no error message or anything.

I’ve tried to reset the preferences, I created a duplicate/new catalog. Nothing is working.

Also, I can duplicate a collection, but I cannot rename it..

update: the helper and preview files are the issue. i had previously tried to delete them, which solved the issue, but it would start up again. i believe backblaze backing up continuosly was the issue and corrupting those files, so i excluded those.  but the issue is happening again!!!

Did you update Mac OS Tahoe 26 our Lightroom Classic at the time this started?

Also, try resetting the Lightroom Classic preferences.

He said he already tried resetting the preferences, so it looks like this is catalog corruption.

i created a new catalog, and “imported from another catalog”

Unfortunately, that can import the corruption too. Often it does not and so this is a good try, but there is no guarantee. Check that you can create a collection in a brand new catalog, so that you know for sure if the problem is in the old catalog. Then, if the problem is indeed the catalog, your best solution is to replace your main catalog by a backup from before this started to happen.

catalog is corrupted i suppose. new collection works in a brand new one. there’s no other option? this has been going on for a while and i can’t afford to lose my edits..

Did you create a duplicate catalog, or did you created a really new catalog? This could be catalog corruption, so to check that you could create a brand new catalog, import a few images and check if creating collections in this catalog works. Checking it in a copy of your old catalog would be useless, because that copy would obviously also be corrupted.
