Creating white border

Using LR 6.12

I have a picture finshed as standard 8x10 aspect ratio

This is being sent to have a canvas print made, due to pic loss at edges want to add a white border (8x10) around the image ... and then shrink image size to fit inside it .... not losing any of the image edge information.

Found 'How To guide' mantioning 'stroke border' but my version does not seem to have the options.

Maybe a simple way would be to 'open or paste in' and empty 8x10 picture ... then paste my image on top and then resize down leaving the white border as 8x10 ... but don't know if that can be done.

There is also a powerful LrC Plug-In available that will provide options for you to create the file you need. It's a export plugin called LR/Mogrify2. See the screen capture.

I'm surprised your service does not offer that option to protect your image. You may want to explore others.

Use the Print module to add the border and then print to JPEG.

I have never used the print module ..... could you explain how to do this ?

I can see in print module where I can add a border but how do I then save it as jpeg .... only seem to have print button, and its on an A4 size ... and I don't want to print it .... just want to add a white border in the jpeg image.
