Crop frame tool no longer auto selected

Using the crop tool on 100's of photos has become very painful and slow now and I can't see a way to get Lightroom to auto select the crop tool when going between photos.

Before I'd select the Crop overlay in Develop module (pressing R). It would automatically select the Crop Frame Tool and the shot was locked.  So I'd click and drag crop frame - done, Ctrl + right key (next photo), click drag to crop, Ctrl + right.... etc repeat 500 times...

Now I have to click the click and drag the handles around the frame (or click the crop frame tool - then crop).  It may not sound like much, but when doing 100's and sometime 1000's of photos that extra step really adds time.

ChatGPT says that it was never a thing to have the crop frame tool always selected in crop mode, but I've had Lightroom for a number of years. How to get it back?

I currently have Lightroom 15.0.1 on a Win 11 machine.

Yes that was what I was meaning, that one movement of pressing R then drag a new crop in one move had stopped. Thankfully a LrC and Windows restart cleared the issue!

Hmm…could it be a Windows-only problem? I just tried it on my Mac, and it still works as expected: Command-left/right arrow (equivalent to Ctrl-left/right arrow in Windows) to previous/next image keeps the crop rectangle active, as it always has.

To try and narrow down the problem, are you also seeing the same problem happen with other values? Traditionally, if you click in a value field (such as Exposure or Shadows) to edit the number, file navigation with Command/Ctrl-left/right arrow keeps that field active. For example, if you click in Temperature and edit the value, and then press Ctrl-right arrow, the Temperature value field should still be active and ready to edit in that next image.

So are you finding that only the crop rectangle is not being kept active from image to image but value fields still are, or are you finding that the crop rectangle and value fields are not being kept active from image to image?

Thanks for the response. I tried it with say selecting contrast, then used the +/- keys to modify its value. Then Ctrl + right to move to the next photo. Then I hit +/- and the previously selected value field (contrast) was still selected. I did this a few times and the contrast was always selected.

Since the issue I had, I also decided to restart Lightroom and my PC.  The issue has now gone!  Lightroom was behaving very slow compared to normal, so I can only guess that something internal went wrong and a restart cleared it up.  Pressing R now will default to the crop frame tool.

Thanks.

I'm not sure I understand your question. On my Mac with lrc 15.0.1, when I press 'R' Lightroom switches to the Crop tool and the crop frame is selected. I can drag a new crop in one movement. Or isn't that what you mean?
