Bug Report: Lightroom Classic 2025 – Crop Tool Expands Slightly After Confirming Manual Crop

Product: Adobe Lightroom Classic 2025
Version: 14.x (May 2025 update)
Operating System: Windows 11 (fully updated)
Category: Develop Module – Crop Tool

🐞 Issue Description:

When manually cropping an image using the Crop Tool in the Develop Module, and confirming the crop by pressing Enter, Lightroom Classic automatically expands the crop slightly beyond what was manually defined. This happens consistently and is reproducible under different circumstances.

🔁 Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open a RAW or TIFF file (issue occurs with both).
  2. Enter the Develop Module > Crop Tool (R).
  3. Choose Free Crop (either “Original” or unlocked aspect ratio).
  4. Manually set a precise crop.
  5. Press Enter to confirm.
  6. Result: Lightroom instantly applies a slightly larger crop than what was manually defined — as if it “snaps” beyond the intended frame.

🧪 Confirmed Not the Cause:

  • Lens corrections on/off: no difference.
  • Rotation on/off: also tested without any rotation.
  • Aspect ratio: happens with “original”, custom, and free aspect ratio.
  • Auto settings disabled.
  • Photoshop-exported TIFFs show the same behavior.
  • New test catalog created: issue still persists.
  • No other Develop settings applied that could interfere.

🔧 Expected Behavior:

After confirming a manually set crop with Enter, Lightroom should exactly apply that crop, with no automatic adjustment unless explicitly instructed (e.g., through Auto or constraint settings).

📎 Supporting Materials:

  • Screenshots available showing the before and after behavior clearly.
  • Both TIFF and RAW files tested — identical issue in both.

📌 Suspected Cause:

  • Possible rounding or internal coordinate recalculation issue in the new crop logic introduced with the May 2025 update.
  • Could also be an unintended shift in how the crop overlay is being applied post-confirmation.

🔄 Workarounds Tried (Unsuccessful):

  • New test catalog → same issue.
  • Export to TIFF and reimport → same issue.
  • “Constrain to image” on/off → no effect.
  • Removed all rotation before crop → no effect.
  • Reinstall of Lightroom → no effect.

🆘 Request:

Please confirm whether this behavior can be reproduced internally and/or whether it is being tracked as a known issue. If this is expected behavior due to some setting, clarification would be greatly appreciated.

💬 Thank you for your time — this issue severely impacts precision workflows such as abstract photography where exact cropping is essential.

Hey @elsv37582160

Thank you for sharing the information I requested; this helps. It appears that your driver is outdated. Please try updating it and let me know if that resolves the issue. You can download the newest driver directly from AMD’s official website here: https://adobe.ly/43HVNah I attempted to reproduce the problem using your settings, but I was unable to do so.

Edit: I've also updated the title as requested. 🙂

Hey @elsv37582160

Thank you for sharing such a detailed bug report! I’m moving it to Discussions for now while we gather more information and work on reproducing the issue on our end. Could you please share your System Info? You can find this by going to Help > System Info in Photoshop. Copy and paste the information into a text file and attach it to your next response.

If you're able, a screen recording of the issue would also be incredibly helpful. Thanks again for your report—we appreciate your help!

Hi CM,

I asked Chat GTP to help me with this problem and when nothing worked it made this bug report on my request. The title 'crop tool expands slightly.." can be replaced by crop tool leaps back to foto-bounderies I think. its not a 'slightly' movement.. By far I can not make the crop i'd like.. if I try to make a crop in the originel ratioit does not crop at all; when I choose another ratio it takes on the new ratio but after enter it moves to a bigger area.

Hope you can help me with this problem, it's very frustrating.
