Question

Cycling through photos wildly and unresponsive to commands

I keep having an issue where let's say I've selected 5 photos to survey, then all of a sudden lightroom begins to cycle through the images and just keeps going around and around and is unresponsive to commands. This sometimes happens without being in survey mode. The only way to stop it is to force quit or wait until it's finished having a fit - this can be 30 seconds or a minute or so!

My 6 month old macbook pro has been in to apple and had a full load of tests and there is nothing wrong with it, so the issue is software related, likely adobe? The OS has been reinstalled and tested also and everything is up-to-date.

Any ideas? This is really frustrating!!

To build on Conrad_C's reply, the Macbook butterfly keyboard has been notoriously unreliable for the last several years:

https://www.macrumors.com/guide/butterfly-keyboard-issues/

Apple has a free keyboard replacement program, though:

https://www.zdnet.com/article/apple-offers-free-keyboard-replacement-program-for-macbook-macbook-pro-refreshes-macbook-pro-lineup/

You might also try resetting LR's preferences:

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/articles-page/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

LR not infrequently soils its preference file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior.

Is it cycling through the selected images in the same way that it would if you kept holding down the Left Arrow or Right Arrow key? If so, it would be acting like a stuck key. I use Survey mode a lot and I’ve never seen that exact thing happen on my MacBook Pro, but if I did, I would give the arrow keys a gentle whack to make sure they're not stuck.

Especially because the 2016-2018 MacBook Pro keyboards are susceptible to keyboard problems. My MacBook Pro keyboard has been mostly fine, but I have seen occasional key repeat problems. To help avoid those, I did something that you can also consider trying:

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Click Keyboard.
  3. Set Key Repeat to Off.

See if that helps!

I actually use a loupedeck plus, so the arrow keys one the keyboard are rarely used. I even tried unplugging the Loupedeck and still it continued. Will try it to se though thanks
