Question

Delay when applying preset to multiple images

I've noticed that since the last couple of updates LrC often stutters when I select a series of images and apply a preset. I'm talking about less than 10 images and it seems random if it will happen or not. When it does the mouse will continue to move but the LrC UI seems frozen then a few seconds later becomes responsive again. The number of images doesn't see to matter, it can happen with just 2 or 10 but never seems to happen with just 1. Auto-sync is enabled.

I've tried to find repeatable steps so I can record it but no luck. Anyone else noticed similar behaviour?

Hi @ShootingPixelsAndy, thanks for reporting this and for sharing the extra details.

What you’re describing sounds like intermittent UI stuttering, which can sometimes happen when Lightroom Classic briefly waits on system resources. A few things you can try/check:

  • Please confirm you’re on the latest version of Lightroom Classic (14.5.1), which includes performance fixes.

  • As dj_paige suggested, keep Task Manager open the next time this happens and check CPU, GPU, and Disk activity. A spike in one of these can cause the UI to pause.

  • Go to Preferences > Performance and toggle Use Graphics Processor between Auto, Custom, and Off to see if behavior improves. Integrated vs. discrete GPU setups, in particular, can cause short freezes. Also, toggle the Use GPU for Preview Generation between Auto, On, and Off.

  • Try optimizing your Catalog (File > Optimize Catalog) and purging the Camera Raw cache (Preferences > Performance > Camera Raw Cache Settings).

  • Is your preset custom or third-party? If yes, it may require additional processing. Also, you mentioned it changes the profile, does it mean the camera profile? Can you make a custom preset without changing the profile and test how it goes?

Could you also share your system info (Help > System Info > Copy to Text File)?

Best,

Anshul Saini

I will do some testing with task manager open and look for spikes.

As for the other ideas, I create a new catalog for each client (weddings) and it happens even on a fresh catalog.
I've tried purging the camera raw cache, the preset was made in LrC and only changes the values in the basic panel and switching the profile to Adobe Vivid.

System is a Ryzen 9 3900x, 64gb, RTX 5080, 2 x NVMe drives (one of which is exclusively for the catalog files). Raw files are stored on internal SSDs. Windows 11, all drivers, etc are up to date.

Perhaps it depends on what edit is being performed and then applied to other images by AutoSync. Is it always the same edit (like Exposure +0.25)? Or does the edit change from AutoSync to AutoSync?

It's the same preset being applied, it changes the profile and applies some basic adjustments. Sometimes it takes a second for 10 images and other times it can take 5 seconds for 3 images.

Do some of the selected images have previous edits? Do these previous edits contain either AI masks or other masks?
