Delete multiple thousands of photos

I'm a wedding phootgrapher and collect around 500.000 throughout a season. So each and every end of the year I'm confronted with the annoying task of deleting aound 80% of those photos as they are rejected images. I'm on a M1 MacBook but still to this day it's an extremely tedious task deleting those images because if I select more than around 5000 images LR will try doing this for a jew minutes but then a system dialog pops up telling me, the system is running our of space as LR is using around 40GB of RAM. Please tell me of a solution that lets me delete all those images without having to go in 5000 images packages...
