Deleting large number of rejected photos residing i Smart collection

Question

Recently I went into troubles running LrC 9.4. While reviewing the contents of a Smart collection containing ~150000 photos as collected from a catalog handling ~270000 photos, I rejected some 500-900 photos followed by deleting them. After having repeated this 'reject+delete' action a few times (less than five), LrC stopped working, forcing me to kill it from the outside.

After restarting LrC, I went on rejecting and deleting photos from the same (although slightly smaller) Smart collection for a small number of times until LrC again stopped working, just as described above.

Did I do something 'illegal' (from LrC's point of view)?

Extra info: The computer that I use for photo/image work, is used for that purpose exclusively. Windows Defender ist the only Anti-(malware) installed. Windows Explorer and Google Chrome are (in principle) the only photo/image-unrelated apps used on that PC. Most often, I restart LrC once a week during periods when no imports or no imagemodifications are made. LrC-catalog is stored on SSD, photos/images on HDD (majority) or NAS (minority).
