Deleting photos and other issues in Lightroom Classic

Ever since I upgraded to Lightroom Classic 13.4 I'm having several issues.  The most annoying is when I try to delete a photo.  When I right-click in a photo and then click on "remove photo"  an option would appear  to "Remove from Lightroom" or "Delete from disc".  The same thing would occur when I used the keys Command/Option/Shift/Delete - the option to remove or delete would show up.  Upon clicking an option  It would then "remove and trash photo" or "remove from Lightroom" (depending on which option I chose).  Now when I try to delete (using either method) I get a long pause while it says "gathering information" at the top left.  This takes 30 seconds to a minute before the option to "remove from Lightroom" or "delete from disk" box comes up.  This is really frustrating and  taking up way too much of my time.  Sometimes the pause will go away if  close down Lightroom and reopen it but sometimes not.  In addition, there are other lengthy pauses that were never there before:  when I click on "Auto" in the Develop Module, when I click on "edit in" when I try to go to an external app, and some functions.  Is anyone else having these issues and if so how can I fix this?

UPDATE.

I bought a Mac Mini M4 Pro with 24 GB of memory, from a 3 year old iMac M1 with 16 GB memory.
Lightroom Classic now is useable. Some metadata hickups now and then.
It seems that LrC since the v 13 major update has became much more hungry for a fast processor and RAM.
The iMac is not that old and I wish Adobe would make LrC not as demanding.
Still writing metadata to the files and seeing changes in the Quick Develop module are not snappy, sometimes slow. I did not have the same issues with the Develop module.

Some of the AI features and masking are nice, but I wish that would not take a toll on the basic editing and DAM features.

And perhaps a small test that might give a clue or might accomplish nothing.

In LrC, in the Folder Panel, create or point to anew/different folder. Then in LrC move a few photos. Any issues?

Preferably these would be photos you want to remove, as after moving them (if without error) you might want to test removal from that location. Also, you might want to go ahead and give that folder a name like crud, or reject, etc. should you desire to keep it for file structure purposes (others may say, noooooo,)

I keep my photos on my hard drive and back them up to an external drive. I also do back them up on the cloud. I figure having them in 3 places can’t hurt!)

I have no problems moving photos between folders in LrC. I just get a message that says “this will also move the folder on the disk…etc”, which is okay.

I increased the cache for Camera Raw (which I had a hard time finding by the way. Camera Raw is not in my applications folder so I had to search for it within Photoshop). I thought at first that it helped because when I starting working on photos this morning I wasn’t getting hang ups but, lo and behold, when deleting photos it started with the “gathering information” nonsense and taking more than a minute to delete one photo.

🤬🤬🤬

An afterthought.

Where do you keep your photos? Not the catalog, but the photos. Same hard drive as the catalog (Ok, but not mandatory) or a different hard drive (also Ok) or dread dread a NAS or the Cloud (not so Ok)

Also as requested by goldingD, a screen shot of LrC Preferences/Performance

There is 58% Free Space

  Free: 4.67 TB (4,669,798,920,192 bytes)

  Capacity: 8 TB (7,998,551,654,400 bytes)

Following probably has nothing to do with your primary problems, however.

That default value of 5 GB for Camera RAW CACHE is way way to low. Even Adobe states to increase that to at least 20 GB..

This will effect performance in the develop module. it will not effect performance in the Library module. It can effect performance in the import if you apply develop presets.

And a final inquiry, before seeing that system info. (or in addition)

The hard drive your catalog is located om. How much free space in percent?

Looking for at least 20% free, some say 25% free.

Can you also post in a reply a screenshot from LrC  /Preferences/Performance?

example:

Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut out as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs and it takes up vast amounts of scroll space making the reply less readable and less likely that others will bother with your post.

example:

I deleted my example now that the OP posted the requested info, as to clear up scroll space.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
