Develop Module Slow to Load Images

Develop Loupe View is slow to load one image to the next, particularly when try to flash back and forth between a group of sync’d images. Advancing through the sync’d images gets bogged down and won’t load images properly. This happens even after 1:1 previews have been created. Was not a problem in LrC v14.X

System Specs: 

LrC 15.3

Mac Studio
Apple M2 Ultra

Memory 64 GB

MacOS: 15.7.5 (24G624)

Samsung T7 External SSD via Thunderbolt 4 cable

ASUS ProArt 32” monitor 

Sony A1II or A1 ARW files converted to DNG

AI culling turned off

This is just about the best gear you can buy and LrC is the weak link…again. Please fix. I can send you a screen recording in a private format as needed.

    Thanks for reaching out. We’d like to narrow this down a bit before escalating.

    Could you please try the following:

    • Test with GPU settings. Preferences > Performance. Set Use Graphics Processor = OFF, restart LrC, and test.

    • Check in a new catalog. Create a new catalog. Import a small set of similar images. Build 1:1 previews and test the development switching.

    • Smart Previews test: Build Smart Previews for a few images. Enable “Use Smart Previews instead of Originals. Check if switching performance improves.

    • Since you’re using a T7 (USB-based SSD), try copying a small set of files to the internal SSD and test. This helps rule out I/O latency during rapid switching


    Also, a couple of quick questions:

    • Does the lag happen only with synced images, or with any images in Develop?

    • Does it improve after letting the system sit idle for a minute?


    If you’re able to share the screen recording, that would be very helpful, especially if it shows rapid switching between synced images. Additionally, copy & paste your system info from the Lightroom > Help > System Info.


    Once I have this, I can take it forward with the product team.
