DNG preview vs image flip

Hi everyone,

I sometime use the flip horizontal tool to improve composition of my pics.

While doing that, after updating the DNG preview, the crop is correct but the image is not flip (remain without mirror effect).

Do you experience the same ? Solution to have correct preview.

Thanks to all

Cheers.

    Hi,

I don't understand the link between what you describe and what I do.

Using the Flip Tool, after leaving the Develop Mode, the preview inside Lightroom is ok (Crop, colours).

Just when updating the corresponding DNG file, the preview embedded in the file seems to contains all the modifications performed during developping expect the mirror effect.

So at the end, the preview in the library is not the same as the exported preview. The mirror effect is missing.

It will help to use more precise terminology, since you and Akash may be talking about different things and it's not clear what precise steps you are taking.  Akash is referring to the Library command View > Enable Mirror Image Mode, which is explained in the article he linked to.

    Questions:

    A. Are you referring to the command Photo > Flip Horizontal?

    B. What are the precise steps you are doing to show the behavior?

    C. If you are doing File > Export, what export options are you using and what program are you using to view the exported photo?

    D. Do Help > System Info and report the exact version of LR you see there.

    ----------------------------------

These steps work as expected in my LR CC 2015.12:

    1. Select a DNG and go into Develop.

    2. Use the Adjustment Brush to paint "L" and "R" on the left and right sides of the photo.

    3. Do Photo > Flip Horizontal.

    4. Observe the photo looks like this in Develop:

    5. Go to Library and observe the photo looks identical.

    6. Do File > Export and export the photo as a JPEG.

    7. In Mac Finder, observe that the thumbnail icon of the exported photo shown in Finder looks the same as in step 4.

    8. Open the exported file in Mac Preview and observe it looks the same as in step 4.

    John,

I think the OP is using the LR command that replaces the embedded preview in the DNG and is finding that the horizontal flip isn't reflected (no pun intended) in the new preview.

Note that I cannot duplicate his problem with LR 2015.12 on Windows.

    Hi stephanel,

The Mirror image mode is just a preview for better composition, when you head over to the develop module and choose to flip the image, the mirror image mode will be disabled else you'd end up with the same image you started with in the Library module.

Also, note that  Mirror Image Mode flips all photos in the catalog horizontally along the vertical axis.

    Refer https://lightroomkillertips.com/lightrooms-mirror-image-mode/ for more details.

    Thanks,

    Akash
