DNG to TIFF Issue When Editing in Photoshop from Lightroom

Hi everyone! I have a question. I’m using the latest versions of Lightroom Classic and Photoshop.

In my workflow, I always receive photos in DNG format, which I open in Lightroom. If I need to make any adjustments, I open them in Photoshop directly from Lightroom. The problem is that when I save the file after editing, it gets saved as a TIFF file.

Is there any way to change this or fix it?

There is nothing to change or fix.

The reason this occurs is that raw DNG image files cannot be changed, so you cannot [save as] or modify a raw DNG by editing.

When you send a raw DNG file from Lightroom-Classic to Photoshop you may see the filename in Ps as a DNG (at the top of screen), however (in the background) Camera Raw has rendered the raw data to a pixel based RGB image in the Ps document window.

Photoshop can then only save a new image with your Ps edits as an RGB pixel file (ie. TIF, PSD, JPG)

In Lightroom-Classic preferences you have the option to set the Ps file-type to TIF or PSD.
