Do not understand Lightroom

Lightroom (I include Lightroom Classic in this) does not follow the usual working conventions for software, I would agree.

But that is necessary and intentional: Adobe developed this system (Lightroom + Photoshop) as a radical alternative to their conventional system (Bridge + Adobe Camera Raw + Photoshop). These systems operate in different ways, with different benefits and possibilities, despite the close similarity of the editing tools available in ACR and in LR.

Many people come to actively prefer the Lightroom "library" paradigm, but only after some initial discomfort (disorientation). The most important step is, in my experience, relaxing about the whole issue of manual management of files and folders: a lot of those tasks can be left for Lightroom to take sole care of. It can be hard to trust LR to do this, and there may be a feeling of losing control. But there can also be a feeling of liberation, and that the working process is MORE fluid and intuitive.

But if they can't learn to "relax" into its paradigm, some people will always find the image-library approach unsatisfactory - it is not for them so they must miss out on its particular advantages. But they do still have the traditional file-based approach to use instead, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that option.
