Do you thing LR will ever change algorithm for the spot brush  ?

I use the spot removal often and find it tough to work with as the algorithm tends to take on a unrealistic mind of its own.

I have seen where in trying to remove a spot on a face it takes the area of a shirt or dress etc.

There are way to many examples and I doubt that I am doing something wrong.
YES, I know you can drag an area but that seems difficult in an area and I perhaps using a writing type pen rather then a track pad would make it easier.

I used Apples Aperture before and there system was real easy in that you highlighted an area as the transfer and then hit the area to be changed, there was no software guessing, IOW's you were in control not the program.

Are you using the Clone or Heal option? If one doesn't work for you try the other.

I actually find it works fairly well and I'll give you an example.

This image has both Clone and Heal used and then some brushing with the clarity and sharpness turn down, in the minus range.

    Before.

    After the adjustments

Although the program initially make the choice for you you can move it around to find someplace that you think is better.

I have used either one (Clone or Heal) and the selected areas.

I have done this and the dragging to me is an issue, perhaps with a track pad it is more difficult then others that use a pen or other add on.

The classic example is when you want to darken an area, each time you have to either drag the spot or hope the algorithm makes the right choice. In Aperture (Apple) once you clicked on a area to be transferred it was locked in therefore you can freely darken an area (Black out) or for a facial (blemishes) keep working with the same clean facial spot for the blemishes to be removed. That would apply for either the Heal or Clone.

As I stated not the end of the world, I minor inconvenience but still worthy of a discussion

As pointed out in # 3 you can hold down the Ctrl or Command, Win/Mac, key when selecting the spot and then move the Selected From circle to wherever you think is best.

In my opinion using the built in Track Pad for tasks like this is not a very good idea. Have you considered getting a wireless mouse for doing things like this?

We are just Lightroom users in this forum, greg14, we don't know Lightroom's future plans (or if we did, we would be bound by a non-disclosure agreement not to say).

If you want to make a feature request, go to Lightroom Classic CC | Photoshop Family Customer Community. Make it a feature request, rather than the above which is a question about will Lightroom change its algorithm.

    Ok!

As I was about to post it, I did see that there was less then 3000 members and I thought that was odd.

I will try your way, it is only a suggestion, I may be on a lonely Island on this one  anyway,

No, sometimes we all wonder why the hell it guessed at a particular source area. On the other hand, one can drag the source afterwards, as you say, or you can use Cmd (Win:Ctrll) to add the spot while selecting the source manually, and the "/" key makes it guess again and change the source area.
