Does Denoise take more than 30 minutes to process CRAW images clicked with a CANON EOS R5

Incidentally I only had an 8 GB RAM on my laptop. I added another 8 GB to make it 16GB. To be honest it had had made no difference.

AI Denoise is particularly demanding, and its performance depends mostly on the power of the graphics hardware (GPU). Given your configuration, the only thing you might be able to do is add RAM to the laptop, if it can be upgraded, in order to let the integrated graphics have more memory. But there are no guarantees that will improve the time very much, because again, the power of the GPU is the main factor, not the amount of graphics memory.

I looked up your laptop model number, and it appears to be an inexpensive low-end model, appropriate for home/office/student work but not good for heavy AI. Your laptop does have Intel Integrated Graphics as part of the Intel processor. The problem is that Intel Integrated Graphics are much weaker than discrete graphics, so AI Denoise will run much slower as a result. Another bottleneck is 16GB RAM, because Intel Integrated Graphics must take its graphics memory from system memory and with 16GB RAM, after the OS and Lightroom Classic take the memory they need there is not a lot left for graphics to use.

Let’s compare that to what you might expect running AI Denoise on other configurations. The times below are based on a 60 megapixel test raw file someone posted publicly on the web for comparisons.

I have a Mac laptop from 2018 that also has a Core i5 with Intel integrated graphics, and 16GB RAM. It can run AI Denoise on the 60MP test file in 8:35. This is considered slow. If I attach a Thunderbolt eGPU containing a discrete graphics card (Radeon RX580 with 8GB of graphics memory), the time falls to 1:19. If your laptop has a Thunderbolt port you might look into whether an eGPU is a practical solution for you, but it is not cheap and not mobile (it’s a box that requires AC mains power), so a better overall solution is switching to a more recent laptop with more powerful graphics hardware.

I have a Mac laptop from 2021 with an Apple Silicon M1 Pro processor and 32GB of memory. It can do the 60MP test file in 31 seconds, partly because it has a good GPU and partly because it has an NPU (neural processing unit, which accelerates AI calculations). Current Mac laptops can do it faster.

For Windows PCs, a good laptop for AI Denoise would be one with a current or recent generation Intel processor, 16 to 32GB RAM, and a good discrete GPU such as an Nvidia RTX series. This should run AI Denoise in less than 30 seconds per image, competitive with or possibly beating the current Mac laptops. (In the near future, the new ARM-based Windows laptops and the new Copilot+ laptops with NPU might do AI Denoise even faster, but not currently, because Lightroom Classic is not yet fully optimized for those.)

The most expensive PC desktops with very powerful graphics cards, and the most expensive Macs, can run AI Denoise in 5 to 15 seconds per image. So, AI Denoise is complex enough that currently it cannot be instant on any hardware, but the right hardware can get the calculation time down to a few seconds for a 60MP image.
