Question

Does toggling "enable HDR in Library" give a more advanced HDR workflow or something?

Hi everyone, can anyone tell me what enabling the "Enable HDR in Library" tickbox does?

I have been editing in HDR since the feature came out without having to explicitly enable the feature. Today when I loaded LR I got the tips dialog box and it said "In Preference dialog, go to Performance tab to enable HDR in Library." Curious, I went there, and it was unticked. And yet the HDR button was there all along above my develop sliders. So I ask, what does toggling this box actually do?!

Thank you so much!

What it does is make previews in the library show HDR edits correctly. Until now, HDR edits only showed in Develop.

ah, thanks Johan. is there a reason this box even exists and has to be explicitly turn on then? Is it particularly resource intensive or something?

Yes.

It has an adverse impact on Library performance. My recommendation is that you don't enable it unless you have an HDR display and want HDR previews in Library module.
