Dropbox on an external HD to store LR photos

Hello. Right now I store my imported pictures in LR on an external HD. So I do all editing etc. while my photos are on the external drive. I think this is pretty common. But is it possible instead to store my photos in a Dropbox folder located on the external hard drive. That way if something happens to the external HD the photos are also in Dropbox? even if I had two external hard drives I would still want to backup to a cloud service. Any reason this can't be done?

    You can store the photos in the Dropbox folder. Really, you need to put the catalog file in the Dropbox folder in order to have your edits backed up via Dropbox, and be very careful, if you open the catalog file before Dropbox has finished synchronizing the file with it's cloud version, you could wind up with corrupted catalog files in both places.

    thank you. You originally I think had said "but why." Is it a bad idea to store them In DB? I want to store them in the cloud as well as an external HD so I have multiple copies. Should I do something different?
