Question

edit in photoshop not available.

I have just installed the newest Lightroom (13.1) and the newest photoshop (25.3.1)

When in lightroom I cannot "edit in photoshop". It says no external editor is selected, and when I try to select one, no version of photoshop appears. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both twice. This is getting old. It's been happening on and off for the last 6 months,

Last time all I could do was install the beta version of photoshop, which puts a giant red popup on the screen every 6 days telling me a have to update.I'd prefer not to do that, but this is a function I use 100x a day.

I have the same issue with LRC 13.4, Photoshop 25.11.0, and Window 10 64bit.  In Preferences/External Editing, I have no software showing up.  Clicking on the window does nothing.  I tried using the Additional External Editing window setting up Photoshop 2024 as the default, but LRC will let me access this from the Edit In menu.  It only gives my and error message tellng me to select an External Editing Software.  So I no longer use Edit In and instead use the Export Window to get to Photoshop.  I am so tired of LRC being totally unreliable.  Version 12.5 was the last stable version on my machine.

You are adding yourself as a Me Too reply in a somewhat old posting. Normally many members including myself would ask if you could post your own Discussion posting. ( various LrC updates may have occurred, various OS updates may have occurred, etc) And while I do recommend that you accomplish that, I will input a few possibilities as follows.

  • LrC preferences file may be corrupt, have you considered resetting it?
  • PS preferences file may be corrupt, have you considered resetting it?
  • Members who have installed any PS Beta, may have nasty issues like this, have you considered removing all instances of PS and PS Beta, then installing PS over again?

Also, one solution that worked in the past

  • Uninstall both LrC and PS
  • Install just PS first, DO NOT install  LrC before installing PS
  • Do not worry about installing ACR, the PS instll will accomplish that
  • Then Install LrC. Very very important in this fix to install LrC AFTER PS.
  • Cross fingers.

I have LrC v13.1 and PS v25.3.1 just as you have. Both updated within the past couple of days.  Edit in PS works without issue.  When you say "when I try to select one, no version of photoshop appears", I assume you mean in the LrC preferences External Editing tab.  Is that correct?  I also assume you can and have started and run PS without using LrC.

If so, it would seem that for some reason LrC does not correctly detect the presence of PS.  Are LrC and PS installed in the usual folders, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2024 and C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom Classic?

Photoshop on my Windows 11 laptop shows the lates version as version 25.2.
Is the version you have on your system Photoshop (Beta) ?

PS. Ok I have updated my Photoshop Application to version 25.3.1 works fine for me.

When you select the edit in function in LrC 13,1 you should see " Edit in Adobe Photoshop 2024 " if you have version 25,3.1 installed the image should open in that version.

Its a bit confusing Photoshop for 2024 starts at version 25.0 it is now at 25.3.1.
