Edit in-Photoshop stops working after ~ three attempts

Hello.

The dreaded Edit in-Photoshop has stopped working again.  I've cleared preferences and resinstalled multiple times and yet it keeps coming back.

I have the latest versions as of May '25, never had beta versions and is practically a virgin machine with just CC on it.  It is a Mac M4 Pro Max.

I am using a Fuji GFX 100 II in compressed RAW 16-bit.

I get, at most, 3 goes with it working and then it stops working with jut the PS splash screen.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Hi there @AndyCooper66! Sorry for the late response, and thanks for sharing your findings. I'm glad to hear there are some workarounds for now.

New updates have recently been released for Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. Could you update and test if the behavior is any better?

When you respond, please mention my username with an @ so I get a notification and can get back to you faster.

Thank you!

No problem Alex.  I have further news and possibly a solution of sorts.

Even if Photoshop opened the files, it would not save the files with an "Error 2" problem.  These problems remained when after the recent updates.

Investigating this issue asking with my problem came to the only solution that worked.  I removed all plugins, external editors, Lightroom Classic and Photoshop including all preferences.

I then installed Photoshop.  Once completed, I opened it to ensure it was installed.  I fully closed it and then I installed Lightroom Classic.  This has sorted the problem - I've tested many files and all seems alright.  What will happen as plugins and external editors or updated are added is yet to be determined.

Hope this helps someone.

Hi @AndyCooper66! Welcome to the community and I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're having.

Could you share a bit more about the issue? Is the "Edit in Photoshop" command grayed out, or does it simply not respond when you click on it? By any chance, does Photoshop launch but fail to open the photo, or do you get an error message? Also, do you have any third-party plug-ins installed?

Thanks so much!

Alek

Thanks ever so much.  The Edit In Photoshop is available and selectable, as it's the Open as Layers - both seems you to Photoshop which just loads to the opening screen - no photos.  I now know that if I choose JPGs, both commands work.  I have Topaz Photo AI 2, NIK 5 and Lumenzia panel installed.

Thanks
