edits are removed when opening folder

When I select a folder in the Folders view I first see all photo thumbnails in the version I have edited them but after a few seconds they start one by one to revert to a original state. The repro photos reverts to their negative image. What is happening? All edits and crops etc are removed. For the B/W ones if I select a photo and then just click somewhere in the Tone Curve panel it turns positive as I developed it. The edits in the Basic panel seems to be correct but any crop on the photo is removed.

I have a backup 1 month old but unfortunately it has the same behaviours. I have a backup from Nov 21 2024 that does not have this behaviour and alla photos are correctly displayed with my edits.

I have 200k photos in the catalog so please help !!!

Lightroom Classic 14.2, Windows 11 24H2, PC with 64GB memory and 2 TB disk.

Correct answer sten p

Can this have something to do with me trying out ON1 and used the migration tool?

No.

"Multiple Settings" usually appears when you do a copy settings from another photo. It is possible that the settings it copied somehow zeros out all of your actual edits. If that's what happened, the only way to get the actual edits back is to click on the item below "Multiple Settings". You would have to do this on every photo, as far as I know.

Does this problem affect all folders, or does it just affect one folder?

Every photo that is affected yes they have this Multiple Settings. Not recent photos, thats is why I suspect the ON1 migration.

I think there is no magic action to fix this. Anyhow, I can handle it even if there are many thousands that are affected. When I need to do an export of some p@hotos it is easy to adjust the history to a correct moment.

Thanks to all for trying to help.

Multiple Settings in the History is almost certainly a multiple adjustment done by a plugin.

I will send you a private message.

In Develop, for one of the problem photos, does the History look something like this:

Or does the History look something like this:

In the first History screenshot, the last (top) edit step is highlighted, in the second one none of the History steps are highlighted.

If yours is like the second sceenshot, it indicates a corruption in your catalog related to History.

@drtonyb

They all have the top item highlighted but that item is named "Multiple Settings". If I hover over the item below "Multiple Settings" then the correct image is displayed.

Can this have something to do with me trying out ON1 and used the migration tool? Ended up with decision to continue with LR.

@Sameer K

I did a import of the complete catalog to a fresh created as you suggested but it did not correct the problem.

Hey, @sten p. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.

Please share the system information from Lightroom Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document > Upload and attach here.

Does this happen after a series of steps? Is the catalog stored on an external drive or a network drive? Also, try these suggestions:

1 - Create a new catalog by holding the ALT key at the launch of Lightroom Classic.

2 - go to File > Import from catalog > target your old catalog. Proceed with merging the previous catalog into the newly made, internal storage-based catalog. For more help via video-based steps, check here. See https://adobe.ly/3NTC9Rv

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!
