Effect of a profile disappears when I return to the library module

After working with a particular profile in Lightroom, I went back to the library module, and the effect of the profile disappeared.  Furthermore, while in the development module I imported the profile-changed image into Photoshop, and when I did that, the effect of the profile disappeared.  Help.
