Question

Epson Printer "Failed" Lightroom

I know others have addressed this issue, but nothing I have tried has worked so far...and many of the posts on this issue are on older versions of software, etc. Here's the issue - trying to print to Epson Stylus Photo 1400 from Lightroom Classic (Ver 12.3).  Running Epson driver version 10.85. Using MacBook Pro 16 inch, running Ventura 13.3.1(a). Each time I try to print, I get the "Filter Failed" error message. I have resintalled the drivers multiple times, reset the printer settings in my System Preferences. Any ideas?

I suggest removing the printer from your Mac and letting macOS automatically install the default printer drivers, instead of manually installing Epson’s version. This can sometimes solve the "Filter Failed" error. If that doesn't work, make sure your Lightroom and macOS versions are up to date and check for any new Epson drivers for Ventura.

Wow! Weird problem. Never heard of it before so Google it. I found this link which goes into a number of steps you already talked about. One interesting aspect was they were able to get their printer working over Airprint rather than TCP/IP. Not sure that is an option and/or USB. Good luck.

Yeah...hate to be a drag, but did all that. Gonna go and get some eye of newt...or, I just use Photoshop to print from, as that seems to work. It really is only a Lightroom issue....But thanks so much for replying. Really appreciate people making an effort...

Then maybe do the Epson Enema and install the print drivers (from Epson) again:
1.Delete all instances of Epson printers from System Preferences (System Settings in Ventura)>Print & Fax.

2.Then go to /Library/Printers and toss the whole Epson folder.

3.Toss LFP Remote Panel (IF you are using this utility for your printer).

4.Then reinstall drivers from Epson and never Apple.

NOTE: IF you have more than one Epson printer, you need to install the driver in the order of their release! Older then newer or you run into issues (eg, install 4800 before you’d install 3880).

Crap, I'm having to do this yet again! Seems like whenever Lightroom Classic updates (now running 12.3) or my OS updates (Monterey 12.6.6) printing from LR gets hosed. The last 2-3 times, color-managed printing from my MacBookPro16 (2021) w/custom profiles to my faithful Epson SP 7880 results in high contrast, very dark prints. (same files printed from a MacPro running Mojave & LR Classic v.10x print as expected)

Anyway, I'm stripping out Epson s/w now, per the 'enema'. But since I have 2 Epson printers, a question: when you say "you need to install the driver in the order of their release! Older then newer…" is older/newer the release date of the printer driver s/w or the release date of the printer hardware? e.g., my Epson all-in-one, WF 3640 is newer hardware than the SP7880, but the driver for the latter is more recent. Thoughts, Andrew?

Thanks!

All the color management print bugs are Apples on Ventura. You cannot expect the correct settings to be sticky. Sometimes they are not, the ColorSync radio button that should be grayed out and 'on' isn't. All thanks to Ventura. My Epsons print color managed fine IF I check every time and ensure they are set correctly. It's APITA but that's the best you can do until Apple fixes their SPI.
