Error message "this file is unsupported or damaged" after December update

I am receiving an error message in Lightroom Classic stating that some photo files are unsupported or corrupted since the December 2025 update. When I reboot, the message goes away and appears for different photos.  Everything was fine before the update.  Has anyone experienced this problem and did you roll back to a previous Classic version?

There is no December 2025 update ... wink wink 😉

I agree with @johnrellis but I'll say it a little stronger: this is almost certainly a hard disk malfunction (or other hardware malfucntion)

Since the 15.0.1 update, though it could have been the 15.0, I have also started receiving "The file appears to be damaged or unsupported" or "The file could not be read" messages on random files, up to 50% of all files being affected. I can see what I assume is the preview but I can no longer edit the files. Both NEF and TIF files (that I have processed in Photoshop) are affected.

Please read the above thread and try the suggestions and also provide us with one of your problem photos via DropBox or other. This is very likely a hardware problem.

    Hello,

I have an issue with my workflow and specifically with synchronisation from Lightroom Web to Lightroom Classic.

My workflow is the following: Photos are taken from iPhone throught standard photo App in Raw format > Lightroom Mobile auto import new photo > Lightroom Web (1To storage) > Lightroom Classic on mac / NAS).
Photos located on a NAS synology (170000 photos and videos) and the library on the internal hard drive of the mac (lightroom catalog lrcat = 1,78Go).

I've always had issues during the synchronization from Lightroom Web to Lightromm Classic with photos presented with an exclamation mark on black background. I was deleting them and perform a new import .... boring process.

I recently upload 1000 photos and I had 255 photos with exclamation mark on black background (Lightroom had problems reading this photo), so I cannot do that one by one.

The photo seems correct on Lightroom Web, I would like to perform a new synchro for those specifics photos.
Do you have a solution to solve it ?

Can we apply a filter on those photo to select them ?

Thanks a lot for your advices and if you think my workflow if not relevant, I am open to any advice !

Thank you johnrellis and dj_paige.  You saved me hours of endless misery by steering me in the right direction. My Dell Xps needed software and bio updates and that solved the problem.

This sounds more like an intermittent hardware problem. Since no one else has reported this issue yet, I think it's more likely a coincidence the problem started appearing when you updated.  Next troubleshooting steps:

    1. Roll back to LR 14.0.1 --does the problem still occur?

    https://www.lightroomqueen.com/roll-back-update-previous/

    2. Upload one of the photo files that LR thinks is corrupted to Wetransfer, Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar, and we can see if other computers think it is corrupted.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
