Exit proof preview?

My cat walked on my keyboard and now every time I edit a photo I'm asked if I want to save it as a proof. How do I get out of this mode? Thanks!

Correct answer Jim Wilde

Your cat has put you into Soft-proofing mode. To get out of that, press "S", or uncheck the Soft-proofing option in the Toolbar (press "T" to show the toolbar).

”S”  does not work. This shows by the way how miserable the ergonomics of this interface is. Overloaded by shortcuts, modes, sub-modes, sub0sub-modes, without any clear EXIT method.

S is just a shortcut for the Develop menu command View > Soft Proofing > Show Proof. If that’s the problem, toggling the state of that Show Proof command should solve it.

Because S is just a shortcut to the Show Proof command, if S is not solving it, can you verify that the problem really is the one in this thread, that soft-proofing is enabled? It’s enabled if you see a check mark next to the Soft Proof command.

The reason it doesn’t have an “exit” is that the command View > Soft Proofing > Show Proof is a simple on/off toggle switch, which is extremely common and nothing weird. It’s exactly the same kind of familiar on/off toggle command as View > Proof Setup in Photoshop, or View > Ruler in Microsoft Word.

Came here because my cat walked across my keyboard and I couldn't get out of proof preview mode.

Thanks!

That's too funny about the cat.  That's exactly the reason I looked up the answer cause my cat stepped on keyboard

I'm laughing out loud. It wasn't my cat. It was my dog!

Believe it or not my cat also caused this - did not understand how my background was now white and on soft proofing.  Thx for solution.

This was exactly my problem, and it was a kitten that caused it.  No joke.

I've decided to never learn how to turn off soft proofing so I can google it and come to this page a few times a year. Thanks guys.

Haha, my cat just did that too, which is how I ended up on this page!
