Export from Lightroom to desktop on Mac, but edits don't appear

Yesterday (Dec 13) I edited a photo in Lightroom Classic 12.01 and then exported to my desktop on a Macbook Pro.  The thumbnail on my desktop did not include the edits.  This is the first time to have this result, although I have followed the same procedure dozens of times in the past with no problem.

Question: This is the date of issuance of LRC 12.1 so I'm wondering if there is some relationship.

More importantly, I am wondering how to resolve the problem.
