Question

Export Settings and Blurry Photos

Today I exported after editing and noticed my shot was super pixelated/blurry, something I hadn't noticed before. I rarely play around with export settings but I tried changing image quality to 100 and still it was really pixelated. I then compared the file of a shot from a few years ago to a re-export of that same shot today. The old file was 1.9 MB while the new file is 1.1 MB, a pretty significant downgrade and it was noticeably lower quality (see attached files). I'm using the exact same camera, I'm on Mac OS, I have no file size limit, image quality is 100, pixels per inch was initially 240 but I tried changing it to 300 which didn't help, so I have no clue what's going on. Any thoughts about what might be happening? Really appreciate it.

The two files have different dimensions – the 2018 file is 2048 x 2048 pixels, the 2023 file is 800 x 1000 pixels.

If you are viewing the smaller file at 200% or so to match the larger file, it will be blurry because it has been scaled up.

PPI (pixels per inch) is irrelevant for screen viewing, it's for print only. (Pixel dimensions divided by PPI = Printed dimensions in inches)

The only important numbers are the pixel dimensions.
