Exported Images Failing To Open In View NX-i (LR6 Win7)

I have encountered a problem which is new to me, after using LR for many years.

I initially import NEF files from sd card to View NX-i, then into LR6. I then process them & export them to a new folder in View NX-i. Today I discovered several images fail to open once exported from my latest project. I have not had this issue before. Out of the 8 failed images (from a selection of about 250) I deleted 5, but wanted to keep 3. I managed to successfully process & export one of the three on the second attempt, but the other two will not export correctly when fully processed. For example; I am using the brush to work on a specific area of an image, sometimes when zoomed. I export the image, with reduced file size & watermark (still fails if I do not change these parameters), but it fails to open in View NX-i & does not show the watermark in the fuzzy preview. I tried exporting the image halfway through the brushing process on two occasions & it successfully opened, with watermark, in View NX-i, but on completion of the treatment it finally failed again during export. For each new attempt I remove the image from LR & re-import it. The NEF files seem to be fine. I have optimised the catalogue with the processed image within & after removing it comletely from LR, before re-importing. Also, having deleted from View NX-i the failed-to-load images I tried restoring some of them from the recycle bin. Here it gets stranger. A couple of the restored failed-to-open images actually appeared in View NX-i & opened okay, including with watermark! But only the ones at a reduced file size. The one I tried at full file size export did not restore correctly & still failed to open in View NX-i. I am exporting as jpgs.

Can anyone help? Thank you.

First I suggest you select ONE image editing, cataloging, viewing program (System) and stick to that.

Whether that be the Nikon View programs or Adobe Lightroom. Using both, IMHO, is counter productive.

As to your problem I don't understand your statement (Bold above). Why are you importing images into View NX-i and then into LR?

From which, in which, program are you editing and then exporting to some other folder?

Hi Just Shoot Me, thanks for your response.

Firstly, I am content with my cataloging/editing/viewing system which I have been using for many years. Please would you explain how using View NX-i for cataloging & Lightroom 6 for editing is counter-productive.

My explanation to your question: I transfer my NEF files from sd card to my catalogue in View NX-i. I then import those files into Lightroom 6 where I process them to suit my requirements. I then export them to a new folder in my catalogue in View NX-i.

In reference to Just Shoot Me's observation, you aren't really accomplishing anything by using the Nikon software. In fact, in my opinion, you are probably complicating the process. Lightroom can import, and organize, and do everything you need to do in one single program. I don't know why the Nikon software isn't reading the JPEG images produced by Lightroom. They are standard JPEG images. I don't know that there would be anything Adobe can do to fix that problem. I understand that you have been using the Nikon software "for years" to organize your photo library. Perhaps it's time to consider a change.

What file format are you exporting the file as?

As I wrote above in the last line of my text, jpg.

JPGs should open properly, so either you have the wrong export settings, or there is a problem with View NX-i (in which case you are in the wrong forum), or your hard disk is malfunctioning.

So ... run diagnostics on your hard disk. Show us (screen captures) of the export settings.
