Exporting photos after editing? - Help please!

Hi all, first post and all that...

I've recently started using lightroom 3, but i'm having trouble exporting my edited files.

I've added the files to lightroom from their original location on my external hard drive, made neccesary adjustments, but i can't seem to then get copies of my edited photos.  I want to send them to someone, but when i go through the exporting process to a file on my desktop, they come out in their original unedited format.  I've worked out how to export to facebook/flickr, but they lose their size and quality this way.

I'm sure this is a really simple question, so apologies, but if anyone could talk me through how i can duplicate and export my edited photos from lightroom to my desktop, that would be amazing!

    First make sure youre on the Library tab. Then on the left panel select the PUBLISH SERVICES section, click the plus just to the right of the publish services text. Once you see the drop down menu click on the Publishing manager text. On the bottom left of the box click on add, then select "VIA SERVICE"  hard drive. On the right you will get options as to whether you want your images converted to jpegs or another type of file, the size, naming etc. etc.   Once you do all that youll see the created drive in the publish services section, youll drag any edits you wish to have saved into that hard drive and then click on publish and you will find the files in the designated folder you specified in the options, hope that helps.

    I am a beginner with Lightroom.....Why would someone design software that does a great job of editing then make it impossible to export photos for specific use.  I am a Realtor & use the photos for flyers, etc.  I've been working on this all afternoon.  I tried the suggestions for exporting but still unable.  Why does it have to be so complicated? Not everyone will desire an online gallery.  I have a higher use and must be able to download from my hard drive.

      It is not impossible! In fact it is easy, easy!

      I have done photography for Realty. I can export images re-sized, etc, exactly as required by the agent for advertising, etc.

      The Export dialog has many options. You just need to do some 'learning' research and you will be rewarded with simplicity.

      Once you have initially set the options in the Export dialog for a Specific Use, you create a Preset (with the [Add] button) , then you can export any photo (or multiple selected photos) with two clicks of the mouse from Library view, at any time in the future.

      Highlight the images you wish to export.

      Ctrl-Shift-E to open the export dialog.

      Change the top drop-down list to Hard Drive.

      Choose a location for the files in the Export Location section.

      Adjust file naming if necessary.

      In the File Settings section make sure you have the correct output format selected and choose a quality (85 is fine for most things and keeps file size manageable).

      Make file size changes as appropriate in the Image Sizing section.

      If you are downsizing a lot then consider adding some output sharpening.

      Click Export.

      Hopefully that covers most things.

      You must have "Original" selected in the file type in the export dialog.  Try JPEG.

      Hello, thank you for your help-- I am having a similar problem to the original poster. However, when I do what you have suggested, the photos I find in the new location are, yet again, the original photos without my edits.

      I have noticed that I am not given the option to change the photo sizes in the export window although I have made sure that "original" is not selected anywhere.
