Question

Exporting .PNG with maximum size in KB (not quality percentage)

Hi all,

I need to export a lot of .PNG files with Lightroom in batch.

I've already downloaded and installed the "Magic Export" plugin, so I'm able to export .PNG files with BG in transparency.

I need also to have a maximum file size to respect for upload on our website (like 1000 kb) but I can't select the option in Lightroom when selecting PNG files.

There is any way or plug-in that give me the opportunity to choose also the maximum file size (not the percentage of quality like 80%, but the maximum file size like 1000 kb).

Also in Photoshop there is no option to export in batch .PNG files, I can select only JPG and TIFF format.

Thank you all in advance.

Simone

Today’s update (LR Classic 8.4) includes PNG export support. Have a look at my summary of today’s new features which includes a short video on PNG export:

As I understand things, the Magic Export plugin for PNG files has no options to control compression, which controls the file size. So, the file size is what it is. The restriction of 1000KB applied to PNG files seems like a strange thing to require; and the only way to force PNG files to be under 1000KB is to crop them (which is probably a trial-and-error process until you get the file size to be appropriate — and you may not want to crop anyway). The whole thing doesn't make sense to me.

Hi,

I'm using Adobe Lightroom Classic but there is no option to decide the file size in kb like exporting .JPEG or other kinds of files.

Let me know if there is any other options.

Thank you

PNG offers more options for compressing the file size than JPEG, but you have to determine what's acceptable. The easiest solution is to use one of the online PNG compression services.
