Exporting Smart Collection to Catalogue Crashes Lightroom Classic 8.3.1 Windows 10

I have a Smart Collection - it crashes when I export to catalogue.

One main folder is created, and then the first folder is partially filled with images.

Then Lightroom simply crashes - no message.

Win 10, latest iteration of  Lr Classic. Latest nVidia Video drivers.

Ryzen 8 core, 64Gb DDR4 memory, 2 x 1Tb SSD.

    Hi all.

    I had the same problem yesterday with LR 9. The collection set contained nearly 900 pictures and caused LR to crash more than 10 times on my Windows PC as well on the Laptop.

    Today I created a new test-catalog where I imported all the photos in several steps and after each step I tested the export. This was going well till the end without problems. Then I switched back to my master catalog and tried the same export as at the day before and it also worked without crashing LR.

    This was really strange and caused me many problems today during my LR-lesson during my workshop, because the manually copied photos were not at the expected location and I needed to search every picture before I could start the discussion. But now everything will be good again.

    This is just my "hack attempt" to learn whether some image corruption is gumming it up: put the exact same images in a regular collection. Does that work? If it errors the same way, try dividing into two halves, repeatedly to see if you can isolate bad image.

    If it works with a regular collection, perhaps delete and then reform the smart collection and try it again.

    That's all I got!

    Hi Jack,

    Sorry to hear about Lightroom Classic crashing, let's make it right.

    Could you please try making a new catalog and create a smart collection in it for testing purpose, then export that smart collection and let us know if Lightroom crashes?

    Hi Jack  - is it only this collection that is crashing  during the export process or all collections?
