F2 for renaming not working

When I tried using F2 on my MAC keyboard to rename files, it shows brightens the screen.

Everything I have viewed so far seen has not shown how to use a shortcut to select rename other than F2.

Are you holding down the 'fn' key at the same time? This brings up rename on my macbook pro. Are you in the Library module?
