Question

(File) Plug in Extras vs (Photo) Edit in

I have several plug-in programs that show up in the (File) Plug in Extras and (Photo) Edit in section of the Lightroom program.  When I access these plug-in they usually act differenly depending on which menu I use for the program.  What is the difference between these ways of accessing a plug-in and which is a better way to go?   Some progams work in both, others work only with one.

Thanks,

Jim

If you use 'Edit in', then Lightroom will send a tiff or psd copy (with the Lightroom edits baked in) to the plugin. If you use 'plugin extras', then the plugin can open the image in another way, so it can open the (unedited) original image. The plugin developer will tell you what to use and why.

Luminar NEO, for example, will work in Plugin extras by sending a copy of a nonedited Lightroom photo into NEO.  It can be saved and returned.  If I use Edit in, NEO gets the hand-off, but it will not allow me to save this photo after doing any editing.   I hope this helps.

Hi Jim I have the same question. Shame that no one seems to have an answere.

I would have hoped that Adobe might pick this one up and offer a lead here

What plugin(s) are you talking about? What software are you talking about (Lightroom Classic or Lightroom or other)?
