Files are showing as corrupted

When I open my pictures in LRc they seem to be OK in the first second but then the views of a number of ‘damaged’ files changes to a corrupted view. Because the view of these files is not ‘corrupted’ in other browsers (Windows, Canon DPP etc.) and only in Adobe views I prsume this is caused by a kind of Bug in the adobe software. Also the fact that it only happens to a number of files that seem to be damaged during the backup some time ago excludes that the reason is my PC/hardware.

Making a copy or exporting from windows view or DPP (to jpg or else) does not result in Adobe readible files either.

Then repair software (Stellar or else) shows to be unable to recognise the problem.

Any idea how to ‘repair’ the files in a way Adobe keeps the undamaged view?

I cannot explain why only ADOBE views are covered with color patterns that look like laying over the picture, and appearing after the undamaged picture is shown for a second.

The undamaged picture you see briefly is the jpg preview embedded in the raw file, which is then replaced by LrC’s own preview, rendered from the raw file.
As explained by @dj_paige the embedded jpg preview is usually not affected by file corruption.
The corruption is not caused by LrC, but by failing hardware on your computer (or possibly by a buggy GPU driver).

To investigate further if this could be a GPU issue, go to Help > System info in LrC, click the Copy button and paste in a new reply.

Adobe software is not the only thing that “touches” your photos. Your hardware touches your photos. And hardware malfunction is a known cause of file corruption.

LIghtroom Classic never changes the pixels in your original photo. This is caused by hardware malfunction (probably hard disk or RAM) or bad GPU driver. The fact that other viewers don’t show the corruption is because they show you the JPG preview rather than the RAW image, which is what LrC is showing. Often the JPG preview is not corrupted when the RAW image is corrupted.

If it is file corruption, you can restore the photos from your backups. If it is a bad GPU driver, update the driver.

I am sorry, but I do not believe de GPU driver can cause it. I do actually have 2 GPU units in my Alienware. The INtel one is used at battery power, and the NVIDEA when working on the charger. In both cases the same view comes up. And as said only when working with Adobe (LRC and PS). It has started after the crash of my external backup drive. Something in the files that triggers Adobe is transferred in all formats (PSD, JPEG, Tiff, CR2) The original CR2 files re actually gone due to a recent pc crash. I believe it is ADOBE translation having a role here. I cannot explain why only ADOBE views are covered with color patterns that look like laying over the picture, and appearing after the undamaged picture is shown for a second. And why only a small number of pictures (about 70 of 70000). I managed to repair one by filling the damaged part in Photoshop, which also shows that there must be an error-bit in the file triggering ADOBE in the view which can just be overwritten.

Because ADOBE only is triggered by it, the only conclussion is that ADOBE is over-sensitive to it., .
